Refugee backlog continues to swell as Tories slow to appoint new adjudicators
Then (Under Liberals) :"When Prime Minister Stephen Harper took power the backlog of claims had effectively been reduced to zero for the first time in a decade."
Now: "More than 12,000 refugee claimants are stuck in a steadily growing backlog as the Harper government continues to dawdle on filling vacancies at the Immigration and Refugee Board. Despite a flurry of recent appointments, the IRB reports that there are still 43 vacancies in its 127-member refugee-protection division, which adjudicates claims for asylum."

BUT WHAT ARE THE FACTS?!
We got system working for 1st time in memory. In only 21 months the Cons have completely screwed it up again! There are no words...well actually there are: muthafuckin dumbasses!
Is it because they're completely incompetent? Do they just not want to allow refugees in? Or don't want to deport illegitimate refugees for fear of supposedly alienating 905 "ethnics" (sic, their Plettism, not mine)?
Answer: Probably, in their dumbass confused way, all three.
But these refugee candidates are real people who are living in limbo without determination of their status. The courts have already ruled that delays in judgement are a factor to be considered when adjudicating - ie., if we make candidates wait so long for decision they've been here for years and integrated, unfair to deport them. Meanwhile, other refugees being pushed to back of line.
Bottom Line: Delays mean legitimate refugees, having fled horrors at home, are forced to live in low-wage-under table or unemployed stressful limbo while illegitimate candidates end up getting rewarded for jumping immigration queue, and some of whom (small percentage, no doubt, but even one is too many) may be unsavoury characters up to no good in Canada. It's in every decent honest person's best interest to have as quick and efficient a system as possible.
And this was forcefully argued for years by the crap-cons. And when we Liberals finally fixed accumulated decades' worth of IRB inefficiency, the cons, true to their crap heritage, have crapped it all up again.

It was around this time, after some correspondence with some in the media, I became aware of their interest, and saw how I could be helpful. Ex:
"Fierce critics of the refugee system in opposition, the Conservatives in government have let the number of vacancies on the Immigration and Refugee Board rise to more than 33 per cent. Processing times have increased 20 per cent; there are more than 30,000 backlogged claims."
For refugees, more chaos at the border
