Layton, Iggy, BCer, F&W & Others: From White Ribbon To White Flag

Same goes for all the incoherent proponents and apologists of bad policy, bad politics and unethical behaviour on this issue. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Je m'en souviendrai. I hope like-minded others will be taking numbers as well.

    PS. Evan Solomon is an airhead. Free Vote? Urban-rural split? So explain how it was all Con MPs, including urban, voted for, and all Bloc MPs, including rural, voted against?

    Reform/alliance and CPC MPs have campaigned on abolishing the gun registry since it's ill conception.

    They didn't have to be whipped.

    The Bloc and the Tories whipped their caucus to vote their respective ways. Any Tory MP voting against it would have been gone in five seconds, as would any Bloc MP voting for it. That's why urban Conservatives and rural Bloc members voted the way they did.

    I know there's a lot of disapppointed people among both our caucuses and membership tonight, so thought I'd share.

    A video for readers' and the host(ess)'s consideration.

    Even they pose as tough on crime, exploit victims and use irrational fear to divide Canadians, the Tories are working hard to obliterate gun control in Canada. Being tough on crime means being tough on guns. Being smart on crime means being tough on Tories. The Harper justice agenda may be the most cynical spectacle in Canadian history.

    Wajid, your leader and his unthinking Jackshit zombie followers are worse than mine, and if you've read me, you know that's saying something. At least Michelle Simson (see her twitter feed) and other Lib MPs are openly, angrily distraught. The Dippers' insistence on parroting the party line and trying to deflect all blame on the Cons is unseemly, even by PopinJack's standards. Even Capstick, shortly after listening to a widow of gun crime point out Layton's blame and hypocrisy, quickly went into "it's not his fault, it's Harper" mode. Sick. Now you too are trying to play the deflect and move on game. BS. We non-Cons all agree Harper is shit. But "Real Leader" Jack & "Steely" Iggy showed just how chickenshitty they are. There is apparently no depth to which they won't go. And you want us to hurry and join them in superficial attitudes? Shame on you. A decent person would want to take some time to reflect on this, not push talking points. I pity Comartin, one good man in a caucus & party of complete tossers.

    Boy it sure is fun watching all you lefty types go through the ceiling over a registry. Tough on guns = tough on crime? Yeah, cause it was a pair of guns that took my parents car for a joyride after hot wiring it. Just walked up and took it-if only they had signed into the registry like civilized criminals! Christ, you people are as dumb as the SoCons who blame videogames and Death Metal for Columbine.

    Agree 100% on the Evan=airhead comment. He is way, way out of his depth on that show. I can't watch it any more.
    I think the real issue here, for progressive voters who care about this issue, is that you now see that voting against the only party that can, that could and that did institute gun control in this country has a real consequence.
    But hey, keep sending Jack and Gilles to Parliament.

    They got it back after police found it with their "eyes" not a registry. Of course, since this is about a GUN registry, your point is neither here nor there. We win, you lose. Accept it and move on.

    Forsey: Good post. Seriously. We're probably more upset than you are today. At least there is some consolation in the fact that a far higher percentage of Liberals voted against the bill, than the NDP.

    Instead of taking the tough road, and fighting for and explaining the benefits of gun control, some MPs in Opposition decided ignorance and expediency was more fitting. Today, these MPs ceased to be Liberals (yeah - Wayne Easter and Keith Martin are atop the shit list).

    This was the type of issue that DEFINES a Liberal. It's a basic fundamental reflecting where one sits on the political spectrum. We know some of these MPs got elected on the coattails of Chretien or Martin, and were simply opportunists of NO TRUE POLITICAL CONVICTION...

    We believe we are a big tent party, but there are a few issues, which put me at odds with a small handful of members/MPs:
    - Gun control
    - Womens' right to choose
    - Same sex marriage

    While these people may continue to use the party for their own selfish political needs, we will continue to disagree with them - and heap disdain upon them.

    I think you really misinterpreted my comment and the posting of the link.

    The point was not to make excuses, just to share a video showing how epically hypocritical the Harper Conservatives are on justice issues.

    And as for cheap talking points: that`s a lot of partisan hostility you`ve got there. Chill.

    Last night was a sad night and the white flag was waved by both parties. Your personal distaste for Layton is irrelevant, as is my respectful opinion that Iggy is a hopeless, out of touch elitist who knows nothing about the life of this country and should go back to Harvard yesterday.

    And there are a lot of NDP MPs, inlcuding the one you refer to, who are publically on the record saying the leadership - on your side and mine - screwed up big time.

    Let`s just all focus on being equal opportunity haters for today. I`ve said it a million times, as much as those on both sides hate it: the left is the new right.

    We`re in the wilderness together until we figure out a way tyo unify.

    There`s no heroic chief of staff coming to save the day, on you side or mine.
